Important Features: Juicers
Experts say you should consider the following variables before deciding on a juicer.
Consider what you want to juice. A wheatgrass devotee does not need the same machine as someone who simply wants fresh-squeezed juice. Centrifugal-ejection machines are good all-purpose juicers. Low-speed masticating juicers produce low levels of oxidation, providing healthier juice, and they are better at juicing leafy greens like spinach and wheatgrass. A citrus juicer is all you need for squeezing oranges and grapefruit.
Check the warranty. Like most products, a good juicer has a longer warranty, while lesser-quality juicers have shorter warranties. Most inexpensive juicers aren't built for daily use, as blades and motors may wear out more quickly. The Jack LaLanne juicer, for example, has just a 90-day warranty.
Centrifugal ejection juicers are the best all-purpose choice. This type of juice extractor is the best blend of ease of use, well-rounded functionality and price. These models eject pulp into a separate container so that you don't have to stop to dump out a pulp basket. Centrifugal juicers (which do not eject pulp) often squeeze more juice from fruit and vegetables, but they are more cumbersome to clean.
If you want to juice hard vegetables and leafy greens, look a masticating or double-auger juicer. Masticating and double-auger machines (such as the Champion Household, Omega 8005 and Green Star 3000 juicers) work differently and use a slow, grinding motor speed, so high wattage is not necessary.
